The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling in Spain presents the Q4 2024 Report on the online gaming market

(Madrid).- The GGR for the quarter was €409.33 million, an increase of 17.57% compared to the previous quarter and 29.82% compared to the same quarter of 2023.

The 4th quarterly report on the evolution of the online gaming market was published for the period: October-December 2024.
The other main figures, deposits and player withdrawals, increased by 20.86% and 17.74%, respectively, compared to the previous year. Compared to the previous quarter, deposits increased by 9.73% and withdrawals by 7.84%. Marketing expenses were 23.65% higher than in the second quarter and new accounts increased by 8.69%. The variations with respect to the same quarter of the previous year are shown in Table 1.
The analysis of GGR by gaming segment shows that:
€409.33 million of GGR is distributed as follows: €177.12 million in Betting (43.28%); €3.48 million in Bingo (0.85%); €203.16 million in Casino (49.63%) and €25.55 million in Poker (6.24%).
The betting segment has a growth rate compared to the previous quarter of 30.28% and 54.39% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Conventional sports betting increased by 75.70% and live betting by 4.68% compared to the previous quarter. Other counterparty betting decreased by -17.55% and equestrian counterparty betting by -4.28%.
Bingo experienced a decrease of -5.21% compared to the previous quarter and -9.36% compared to the same quarter of 2023.
In the casino segment, there has been a growth of 8.07% compared to the third quarter of 2024 and a positive annual rate of change of 18.62%. This annual growth is seen in slot machines with 29.35% and live roulette with 5.38%. Compared to the previous quarter, live roulette increased by 11.42% and slot machines by 8.35%, while conventional roulette decreased by -10.40% and Black Jack by -5.91%.

Poker in the fourth quarter of 2024 showed an increase of 24.49% compared to the previous quarter and 0.55% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Compared to the previous quarter, tournament poker increased by 32.61% and cash poker by 5.53%. The annual variation rates are negative -12.63% for cash poker and positive 5.99% for tournament poker.
As a result of the movements analysed, the percentage distribution of GGR in the different segments in the fourth quarters of the period 2021 to 2024 is shown in Table 2.
Marketing spend in the quarter was €162.34 million, broken down into affiliate spend €16.00 million; sponsorship €2.02 million; promotions €77.47 million; and advertising €66.85 million. Compared to the previous quarter, this marketing expenditure increased by 23.65% and by 42.49% year-on-year. Compared to the previous quarter, sponsorship grew by 60.72%, promotions by 16.53%, advertising by 32.65% and affiliates by 21.56%. Compared to the previous year, sponsorship increased by 65.54%, affiliates by 11.14%, promotions by 46.01% and advertising by 47.72%. In this quarter, promotions are broken down into bonuses released in prizes of €23.64 million and not included in prizes of €53.83 million.
The monthly average number of active gaming accounts was 1,546,049, up 6.72% on the previous quarter and with a positive annual variation of 21.80%. The monthly average of new accounts is 166,493 users, with a quarterly increase of 8.69% and an annual rate of 28.86%.
Out of a total of 77 licensed operators, 64 have at least one active single licence during the fourth quarter of 2024, broken down by each of the gaming segments:
